Premier Division: Results after Round 10

November 30, 2007Apart from the fact that it is bloody freezing in here and my fingers are turning blue, the Premier division has finished its games for the day and are now quite delightedly trying on their collector’s item polo shirts for this year’s tournament. I see Ed Okulicz (his name is a finger-twister to type) trying on his tee; so is Chris May. Personally, I’ve got a size L – anyone want to trade to an S?
We’re all now waiting for the Open division to finish so that we can proceed for dinner. They started at about 7.50pm and it’s now 8.20; not a single result slip has come back to me so I foresee I will have to let my fingers slowly become blocks of ice while I vainly attempt to hush my growling tummy. Michael quite generously supplied us all with Snickers bars to stave off hunger pangs earlier, so now I’m 1) cold (to put it mildly), 2) impatient for dinner, and 3) twitching from a sugar rush.
Hopefully tomorrow’s Internet connection will be less patchy – at least I could connect sporadically; Barry is having much trouble linking his computer up. So far though I must say that this year’s players have been wonderfully well behaved and an easy group to handle.
Many thanks to Suanne and Ed who’ve offered me their Snickers (as Ed put it, I am merely a brain led by my stomach, and if it demands sugar, who am I to deny it?) but I think I need some real food. Come, result slips, to me!

November 30, 2007Guess which two players are running away at the top of the Premier Division? Go on now; it’s really not hard to guess.
A Ganesh (MAL) and Nigel Richards (MAL), who else? Malaysia is now slowly pulling away given the heavyweights sitting pretty at the top of the table.

November 30, 2007Singaporeans Shim Yen Nee and Kum Zi Peng have taken the top two spots in the Open category while Malaysians Alex Tan and Tan Jin Chor are sitting right beneath in third and fourth place. All the way to JB just to play their own countrymen! In one fell swoop, Yen Nee has also snatched the high game with 637 points, aided by her high word SLIDABLE for 140 points.

End of Day 1
November 30, 2007It is the end of Day 1 of the Causeway Scrabble Challenge.
We apologize for not having updated the Open division standings yet as Barry was having some trouble connecting – he ended up having to leave the tournament room to access the net! Currently the Premier division has completed 10 games while the Open division has completed 6. We pushed for an extra game today to accommodate many who have to leave early on Sunday. We will be posting the Open division standings as soon as possible (I believe Barry might be doing so tonight, on the Australian page).
The top five players in the Open division are: Chaiwat Wuthinitikor (THA), Edie Mueller (AUS), Tony Sim (SIN), Toh Weibin (SIN), and Amnuay Ploysangngam (THA).
Thanks for your patience! The Open division will commence tomorrow morning Malaysia time 8.30am, while the Premier division will commence at 9am (as they tend to finish faster, they get an extra half hour sleep). Both divisions have another 10 games to complete tomorrow.
So ends Day 1.
